This first weekend of summer not only brings record high temperatures to most of the country, including here in Colorado, but the political and social pressures are also reaching a boiling point. As Axios Denver reporter Alayna Alvarez shares at the table this week: “It will be really hard to watch if things keep escalating on both sides as they are right now.” Thankfully, Alayna and the rest of the Insiders are coolheaded thinkers who bring some needed context to all that Colorado is juggling.

May 2, 2025 Edition

Last weekend while I was back in Maryland, a friend of my mothers, who used to bring her family out here to ski, said to me, “I’m not hearing good things about Colorado lately.” And then, she changed the subject, went on to something else, and I didn’t get to respond. Since then, I’ve read reports on homelessness in Colorado, executive orders targeting Colorado and the 15th lawsuit against the administration, another ICE raid… and stories that capture the tension of the final days of the legislative session. So, I was very eager to get some of Colorado’s brightest together for this week’s Colorado Inside out to talk about what’s happening in our state – the lows and some highs!

March 7, 2025 Edition

This week, we saw the ‘Sanctuary City Showdown’ with Denver Mayor Mike Johnston in the hot seat, defending the city’s immigration policies during a 6-hour Congressional hearing. And this week, we welcomed a new Insider to the show, Kristi Burton Brown, who says that hearing proved that Denver is indeed a sanctuary city. To that notion, Eric Sondermann suggested, Denver is a “welcoming city.” We had a deeper conversation beyond the semantics of the words at hand, and as Patty Calhoun said regarding this week’s Colorado Inside Out … this is a ‘fun one!’ Continue reading
