Colorado This Week: Political Violence, Competency Law Debate, Governor’s Race & Broncos Stadium

By Kyle Dyer on September 12, 2025

How many weeks have I started Colorado Inside Out saying… “it was a big week.. there’s lots to discuss…” and assured that our panel has some great insight to help sort through what’s happening around us. We end this week with a lot of emotion. And in regards to some of what has transpired maybe we don’t have all the answers. However, we all have our beliefs and ideas as to why things happen, or how things could be better and we need to listen to one another to move forward, together. Here is a look into what we discussed on September 12th .

Colorado This Week: Vaccine Confusion, Tariff Trouble, Space Command Move & Taxing the Wealthy

By Kyle Dyer on September 5, 2025

September is certainly starting off with a bang in Colorado. On the day after Labor Day, the announcement came from the White House that Space Command will be leaving Colorado, the Governor announced the tariff impact has grown sevenfold here in Colorado… and there’s the confusing back and forth as to who can get COVID Vaccines. The vibe is soo tense that there was even a benches-clearing brawl in the 1st inning of a Rockies game, which ended with the team’s 100th loss of the season. When things are tense, it’s good to talk it out…so that’s what we did on this week’s Colorado Inside Out.

Colorado’s Budget Deficit, Social Policy Bills, DIA Nuclear Proposal & Local Leaders’ Influence

By Kyle Dyer on August 29, 2025

Right off the top this week, I asked our Insiders to assess where Colorado stands financially after the special legislative session which was called to find a path towards correcting the state’s $800 million deficit. Lawmakers voted to roll back tax breaks for businesses. Governor Polis signed off on those (and other bills) and then announced spending cuts to the current budget. And the third part of the plan involves taking some money from the state’s reserves. With all the numbers flying around, I find it really helps to take in some extra context to make sense of what’s happening. Fortunately, we have some top-notch thinkers on this week’s Colorado Inside Out.. here’s a glimpse of our conversation.

Wildfires, Budget Gap, Denver Projects, and SNAP Soda Ban in Colorado

By Kyle Dyer on August 8, 2025

It’s been an eerily hazy week across Colorado as wildfires burn on the Western Slope and smoke lingers statewide. The picture is just as unclear for state finances, with a special legislative session set for August 21 to address a major budget gap. On this week’s Colorado Inside Out, our panel digs into the wildfire crisis, the $1B budget shortfall, Denver’s largest set of city projects headed to voters in November, and Governor Polis’ newly approved plan to block SNAP purchases of sugary drinks.

Happy Colorado Day! On August 1st, 1876, Colorado became the 38th state in the United States. So, we are one year shy of “the big one”—our 150th birthday in 2026. Here’s a time-capsule-esque conversation about where Colorado stands in its 149th year… and a look forward at all that Colorado is focusing on to strengthen our communities so that they’re places more people can afford to live, raise families, build businesses, and feel connected to one another.

July 18, 2025

By Kyle Dyer on July 18, 2025

The skies over Colorado have been smoky all week because of five active wildfires burning along the Western Slope. Hazy is also an appropriate word to describe the future financial situation within Colorado amidst pending tariffs with our state’s two biggest trading partners. There is continued talk about the challenges mounting for the state’s budget and for all of us who live and work here in Colorado. Our Insiders might not be top economists but they’re able to decipher what’s at stake… but first we addressed some findings in some recent polls.

July 4, 2025

By Kyle Dyer on July 4, 2025

Since our weekly show falls on the 4th of July this year, I put our Insider panel to the task of talking about ideals of independence. Next year will be our country’s 250th birthday… so, what does independence look like compared to what our Founding Fathers longed for when adopting the Declaration of Independence in 1776? This topic is a great launching pad for this week’s show…

June 20, 2025

This first weekend of summer not only brings record high temperatures to most of the country, including here in Colorado, but the political and social pressures are also reaching a boiling point. As Axios Denver reporter Alayna Alvarez shares at the table this week: “It will be really hard to watch if things keep escalating on both sides as they are right now.” Thankfully, Alayna and the rest of the Insiders are coolheaded thinkers who bring some needed context to all that Colorado is juggling.

May 2, 2025 Edition

By Kyle Dyer on May 2, 2025

Last weekend while I was back in Maryland, a friend of my mothers, who used to bring her family out here to ski, said to me, “I’m not hearing good things about Colorado lately.” And then, she changed the subject, went on to something else, and I didn’t get to respond. Since then, I’ve read reports on homelessness in Colorado, executive orders targeting Colorado and the 15th lawsuit against the administration, another ICE raid… and stories that capture the tension of the final days of the legislative session. So, I was very eager to get some of Colorado’s brightest together for this week’s Colorado Inside out to talk about what’s happening in our state – the lows and some highs!

April 25, 2025 Edition

By Kyle Dyer on April 25, 2025

This week started on a somber note with the death of Pope Francis.Governor Jared Polis lowered all flags to half-staff in Colorado, which is home to an estimated 830,000 Catholics, including me. The day before, on Easter Sunday, Pope Francis said, “I would like all of us to hope anew, and to revive our trust in others, including those who are different than ourselves.” To relate that to Colorado Inside Out’s mission, every week we bring together various perspectives with our Insider panel with the idea being the more we know where each other is coming from, the more of a path we have to being more connected. With connection, there’s the ability to build trust. So that’s why we do what we do.
