about Bobby
Bobby Springer began his broadcasting career as a teenager in Los Alamos, NM. Through an educational partnership with the CBS affiliate in Albuquerque, Bobby had his first works broadcast across the state at age 15. This early opportunity to share stories with the community, nearly four decades ago, paved the way for a lifelong commitment to ethical journalism, innovative creation, and community service.
A graduate (with honors) of Eastern New Mexico University, Bobby’s first experiences with PBS were at KENW, the university-affiliated station, serving Portales, NM, and the high plains of eastern New Mexico and west Texas.
Following graduation, Bobby worked for KARE11, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis, Minnesota, before finding his professional home at 9NEWS K*USA, the NBC affiliate in Denver, Colorado, in 2000. Bobby’s career experience has seen him take on various roles, progressing from an entry-level position as a production assistant to producer, to ad sales, and ultimately to executive leadership. Bobby left Denver in 2018 to lead a team in a top-ten market, as President and General Manager of KHOU11, the CBS affiliate in Houston, Texas.
In November 2024, Bobby returned to the community of Denver, Colorado, to lead PBS12, with a mission to transform the storied operation and usher in a new era of public service. Bringing years of experience in commercial media to the public media space, Bobby has a vision to evolve what people can expect from public media and how this treasured institution can grow, create value, and opportunities for a community with changing needs and media habits.
Throughout his career, Bobby has maintained a track record of excellence, having been personally recognized with dozens of awards, including nine Emmy Awards, over 15 Colorado Broadcasters Association Awards, Telly Awards, a PromaxBDA Award, the inaugural TVB EMMA Award for excellence in marketing solutions, and a Minnesota Broadcasters Association Award.
