CPT12 First to Broadcast “One Day in the American City”

A Community of Filmmakers Share On-The-Ground Perspectives of Urban America in a New 3-Part Series that Features Denver

Denver (April 27, 2016) – Colorado Public Television will be the first PBS station to broadcast One Day in the American City, a film series that covers homelessness, gentrification, new technology, the sharing economy, gun laws and urban farming in the 3-part series airing Sunday, May 1 from 7 pm until 10 pm on CPT12.

In partnership with CPT12, One Day in the American City features Denver as one of eleven cities explored in the series. From a clock painter dangling high above from Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower to Mayor Hancock, the show features a broad spectrum of personalities and ideas representing both Denver and the national urban footprint.

“The series shares a rare opportunity to explore on-the-ground perspectives from the people that truly make up our country’s cities,” said Brandon Litman, co-founder with Kyle Ruddick of One Day in the American City. “We see both the divisive issues and the common bonds that connect us all.”

The three half-hour episodes tap a diverse pool of content from a single day, including participation from professional filmmakers, academics and every day citizens, including artists, inmates, advocates, and business owners, to name a few. The program worked with more than 300 non-profit organizations and civic groups throughout the US.

“We are extremely proud to be the first public television station to broadcast this amazing series, especially since filmmakers in Denver helped to tell these important stories,” commented Dominic Dezzutti, VP of Content at Colorado Public Television. “We were happy to cover the filming project two years ago and we’re even more excited to share the work with our viewers across the state.”

Immerse yourself in the story of the American city, as told by thousands of filmmakers in a single day. The project comes from the founders of One Day on Earth, Kyle Ruddick and Brandon Litman – the award-winning team behind the first documentary to film in every country in the world during the same 24-hour period – October 10, 2010 (10/10/10).

Show producers are working with PBS to expand the filming events into new cities, creating a new platform for civic engagement through media creation.
