Job Description:
PBS12 is establishing an internship/apprenticeship program and is seeking an energetic, highly skilled, creative video Photojournalist and editor with a passion for storytelling, teaching, coaching, and mentoring.
This is a split role with 35% of the time being spent helping to lead, teach, and mentor participants in the
internship/apprenticeship program, and 65% of the time being spent on original storytelling. No live shots. No breaking news. Nights, weekends, and holidays are the exception and ONLY when the story or project demands it. Bring your passion and hustle; bring your curious mind and a sense of purpose and focus on helping PBS12 coach up the next generation of creators, providing them with the foundational skills and experiences to carry on an impactful tradition of ethical journalism and telling critical local stories that educate, inform, entertain, and inspire our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be able to tell a compelling, impactful story using video and audio as well as the latest editing
and photography tools. - Teach, coach, and mentor young creators; organize curriculum, guest speakers, and basic
scheduling. - Assist in the creation and updating of the internship/apprenticeship program.
- Work independently or with a team.
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (phones, webcam interviews, generative A.I. etc.) to enhance stories.
- Be able to edit videos for TV, OTT, website, and social media.
- A clear understanding of the principles of journalism and ethical behaviors.
- Must be able to multitask, work on both short-term and long-term projects, and manage your time.
Required Skills:
- Five years or more as a TV/video photojournalist.
- Experience with coaching, mentoring, teaching, or presenting at industry events (like NPPA Conferences, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to lift and carry 40lbs and occasionally up to 80lbs of equipment.
- Demonstrated excellent storytelling, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills.
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Premiere and the Adobe CC Suite.
- Drone experience and FAA Part 107 Certification is a plus
Compensation: $75K-82.5K
Benefits: PBS12 offers a comprehensive benefits package with 100% employer-sponsored medical, dental, LTD, and a $25k life insurance policy along with access to a Health Savings Account (HSA). Paid time off includes 11 holidays plus accrual of vacation, and sick days. Additionally, employees may participate in a 403b retirement plan with a 3% employer match after one year of service.
