Virtute Duce, comite Fortuna (Led by virtue, accompanied by good fortune): Eighteenth-Century Music by Female Composers
Join Parish House Baroque, the PHB Society, and guest artists Dr. Alison DeSimone (harpsichord) and Dr. Kimary Fick (baroque flute) in Virtute Duce, comite Fortuna (Led by virtue, accompanied by good fortune)!
Female composers of the eighteenth century, like Anna Bon and Elisabetta de Gambarini, hovered between the public and the private, composing music out of sight, and yet marketing that music towards a broad selection of European society.
This lecture-recital explores their music in order to understand how female composers were able to emerge from their limited gendered roles and engage professionally with the amateur musical society through music publication.
Wine and hors d’oeuvres before the performance.
