The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the country’s longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7-12. This year Colorado received more than 5,000 submissions for this esteemed competition. Students submit their work in 14 diverse categories, including, but not limited to, digital art, photography, drawing and illustration, painting, sculpture, ceramics, fashion, jewelry, film & animation, mixed media and comic art.
Since the program’s founding in 1923, the Awards have fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students, including renowned alumni who have gone on to become leaders in their fields, including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Philip Pearlstein and Sylvia Plath. More recently, Stephen King, Richard Linklater, Zac Posen, and Lena Dunham received Scholastic Art & Writing Awards when they were teens.
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program celebrates the visionary talents of creative students throughout Colorado, providing them with opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication and scholarships. It’s an awards program, but first and foremost, it’s a celebration of a student’s hard work, unique talents and originality.
The Colorado show can be viewed at History Colorado Center from March 3, 2018 through March 30, 2018 and involves schools throughout Colorado. This showcase really highlights the talent and depth of Colorado students, who create these dynamic works of art. The work of these students is truly incredible, unique and inspiring and deserves to be seen and appreciated by as many people as possible.
