Event Details

High fashion milliner Stephen Jones has had a 40-year career in millinery that has redefined the craft. Using modern and compelling materials, he has attracted a wide range of celebrity clientele, which includes Diana, Princess of Wales, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Mick Jagger.

Jones first worked with the House of Dior in 1996, and his history with the house will be explored in this lecture.

As a specialist on the history of hats and curator of several exhibitions on this subject, he will retrace the importance of the hat design at Dior, from the creations supervised by Mitzah Bricard, the muse of Christian Dior in the 1950s, to his own designs for John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The lecture will be followed by a conversation with Avenir Foundation Curator of Textile Art and Fashion Florence Müller, who published one of the first books on the history of milliners in 1993.
