First Christian Church is presenting the Pikes Peak Singers, directed by Victoria Lipscomb, and the Summit Ensemble, directed by Kim Schultz, from the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale. Their program, “Building a Better World Through Song,” will include music from around the world, as well as folk favorites, such as Shenandoah, from the United States. There is something for everyone in this musical journey around the globe. A free will offering will be taken.
Summit Ensemble, directed by Kim Schultz and accompanied by Christine Hitt, is an internationally recognized mixed-voice ensemble. Performing some of the most challenging repertoire available, this group recently performed as part of the world premier of Eric Whitacre’s opera, Paradist Lost: Shadows and Wings at Carnegie Hall, as well as the critically acclaimed collaboration with Colorado College to present the regional premier of Lori Laitman’s Holocaust oratorio Vedem. Summit Ensemble is the créme de la créme, and their performances reflect the high standards that are required as part of this ensemble. Many of the Summit Ensemble’s alumni have been accepted to music program at universities across the nation, including Northwestern, St. Olaf, and UNC.
Pikes Peak Singers, directed by Victoria Lipscomb and accompanied by Debbie Salamander, is the premier treble choir from the Colorado Springs Children’s Choir. The deliver professional level concerts close to home, as well as around the world. This group is challenged at every rehearsal to continually progress vocally as an ensemble, as individual singers, and in their overall foundation of musical knowledge. The Pikes Peak Singers have received a variety of awards, including two first-place medals from world-class caliber choir competitions. The ensemble stays busy with concerts throughout the year, including regional tours, and national/international summer tour opportunities.
