The Golden Age of Radio returns when One Night Stand Theater presents an evening of mystery-themed old-time radio plays in “Mystery Radio Theater” on Sunday, October 8, 7:00 p.m. at the Vintage Theater in Aurora.
This one-night-only production features three radio dramas from the 1940s and one new radio play inspired by the era, complete with vintage advertising sponsors:
- A nightclub psychic discovers a murder plot in “The Haunting Hour” episode “The Thought.”
- A ghost terrorizes a small New England village until he meets “The Shadow” in “The Ghost Walks Again.”
- A big, spooky house means trouble for Inspector Bumble when he shows up on a “Dark and Stormy Night” by D.J. Jones.
- A simple job turns deadly on a train bound for San Francisco in an episode of “Pat Novak…For Hire.”
“This is our fourth evening of old-time radio shows,” says James O’Leary, artistic director of One Night Stand Theater. “Complete with sound effects and old commercials, they are great fun for the audience and the cast. They’re a window to a different era of entertainment, and this year’s plays focus on chills and thrills.”
One Night Stand Theater is a Denver-area theater company that has presented one-night-only evenings of theatrical staged readings over the past eight years, each with its own theme. Performances have featured folk tales, Shakespeare, Hollywood, and plays about war, romance, and the Bible.
