Event Details

Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) at Boulder presents a very special afternoon of entertainment, Friday, September 23 from 4:00-5:45 pm at the Canyon Theater at the Main Boulder Public Library, featuring the beautiful music of Amrit Kaur Lohia and a solo theater performance of original work by Aditya Roy. As with all presentations at the JLF at Boulder Festival, September 23-25, the performance is free and open to the public.

Hailing from the UK, Amrit Kaur Lohia presents ‘music beyond borders’, bringing to the stage an eclectic set of music and storytelling from around the world. Featuring North Indian classical Sarangi, Punjabi folk as well as sounds of the Mbira and reinterpretations of jazz standards, her music covers traditional compositions as well as original songs inspired by London youth culture. Accompanied by Pratab Singh on tabla/percussion. Lohia has toured internationally as a performer, composer and workshop facilitator. She trained as a theater director at the Young Vic and is currently studying for an MA in History at SOAS, University of London. https://youtu.be/fLz6kXch2P8

Aditya Roy has spent almost 2 decades exploring different forms of Martial Arts, in search of that ultimate form of self defense. Along the way he has also worked extensively in the fields of theatre and music. Aditya’s deep respect and gratitude to all his gurus who have brought him to this juncture of learning, culminates in this theatrical story of a Master whom he regards as one of the greatest warriors of all times.

“Guru Dakshina – The Offering” is the story of a boy full of wonder and curiosity who dreams of the great warriors of the past — warriors who stood for more than their ability to take lives — and of being one of them. It’s also about an old man wandering alone through the world constantly running from a past he cannot face. Fate or chance brings both characters together to change each other’s lives. At its core, “Guru Dakshina – The Offering” is the story of the relationship between The Guru (Master) and The Shishya (Student); a relationship that teaches us to be fearless and encourages us to achieve the impossible.
