Event Details

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations are all over Colorado this year and Denver’s Westwood Creative Arts District is uniting comunidad through ritual and art. Bring your whole family to partake in this indigenous celebration that honors and remembers loved ones who have continued their journey into the afterlife. This FREE cultural art event will include traditional Aztec ceremony and procession by Captin Cuauhtempoc Mosqueda de Mexico Tenochitilan, face-painting, sugar-skull mask decorating, pan de muerto cooking classes, a car show hosted by Compas Car Club, and festive bites. Buy and enjoy original art & altars created by local artists, students, and the Westwood community! DINKC and They Shootn are curating an art exhibition at the Empress with Denver’s incendiary talent.

Muertos in Westwood Call for Entry!

The Empress is hosting an open call for artists to submit their Día de los Muertos-inspired art work. Drop off your art on Friday, November 2nd, from 4-8 PM, at 3950 Morrison Road. The exhibition will be on view at Re:vision, 3800 Morrison Road, Denver, CO on November 3rd.

Pan de Muerto Cooking Class

Re: Vision is hosting a baking class that will lead you closer to the true traditions that bring families together during this celebratory time. This sweet delectable treat resembles the bones of loved ones and a tear from Chimalman—an Aztec deity known to be the mother of Quetzacoatl. Offerings such as this one are left on altars to guide ancestors back to the living.
During the session learn about the history and take home your very own creation to add to your altar.

The Art of Riding Low

Driving down Morrison Road there is no doubt that car culture is embedded within the roots of the neighborhood. Compas Car Club is hosting a car show with the slickest rides paying tribute to the old-school-street mentality that lives on. Attendees will get a chance to vote for best in show.
