First Christian Church at 16 E. Platte Ave. is presenting a Messiah sing-along led by the Chamber Singers from the Colorado Springs Chorale, directed by Kim Schulz, and accompanied by strings, trumpet, harpsichord and organ. The program will include numbers from all three sections of the Messiah, including recitatives, solos, and major choruses. There will be a limited number of scores available, so bring your score if you have one. Come and begin the Advent season by singing this glorious music by Georg Frederic Händel, or just enjoy being surrounded by those singing. A free will offering will be taken.
The Chamber Singers, comprised of 18 auditioned singers from within the larger Colorado Springs Chorale membership, serves to represent the Chorale in venues and at events where a larger chorus would be impracticable. The group was created to function as an educational and community outreach, to encourage young people to pursue singing beyond high school and college, and to recruit singers for the Chorale. The choir performs choral literature from across the centuries, from the Renaissance to the present.
The Chamber Singers perform under the direction of Kimberley Schultz. Originally from Washington, D.C., she has lived in Colorado Springs for 16 years, and is the Director of Music at First Christian Church. Kimberly received her Bachelor of Arts in Music and History from Duke University in Durham, NC and her Masters of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, where she served as the graduate teaching assistant for choirs. Kim has extensive experience working with young people, both as a vocal music instructor in the public and parochial schools for 7 years, and as a private piano and voice teacher for 20 years. She and her husband, Mark, love the Colorado lifestyle, and are avid skiers, runners, hikers, and gardeners.
