Event Details

Please join us for a screening of the multiple-award-winning film Liyana to benefit the Akpe Cultural Center in Ghana. In Liyana, five Swazi orphans turn past trauma into creative fuel for a story that sends a young girl on a dangerous quest. In telling Liyana’s tale, the children use art to transform and shape their own stories. It has been called “part documentary, part animation, pure magic.”

Local artist and teacher Maputo Mensah seeks the same opportunity for children in Ghana. He’s building the Akpe Cultural Center there to preserve and promote the traditional dance, drumming, song, and storytelling of Africa for its children and the world. This project is sponsored by the Boulder County Arts Alliance. The filmmakers and Maputo will be on hand for Q&A following the screening.
