First Christian Church is presenting “Joining Forces, ” featuring the Pikes Peak Ringers, directed by Kevin McChesney, and the virtuoso Forte Handbell Quartet. Take your mom out to lunch for Mother’s Day, then treat her to a dynamic music event. A free will offering will be taken.
Since 1991, the Pikes Peak Ringers have continually expanded the boundaries of traditional handbell music, bringing their extensive repertoire, innovative techniques and distinctive visual approach to numerous projects and venues around the country. Recognized worldwide as one of the premier handbell ensembles in North America, the Pikes Peak Ringers released their sixth studio CD, Classics, in the spring of 2011 that includes “Dona Nobis Pacem,” PPR’s track with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma that was released in December 2009 as part of Mr. Ma’s Grammy award-winning CD, “Songs of Joy and Peace.” With an annual performance schedule that includes several local and out-of-state concerts, they have also been featured at national handbell events and on several promotional recordings, in addition to their own studio CDs, instructional DVD, and a live concert DVD of the world’s first-ever classical concerto for handbells and orchestra. Today, as a non-profit organization, the Pikes Peak Ringers continue to provide an outlet for advanced ringers in the greater Colorado Springs community, to teach others about handbells through workshops and other venues, and to create vivid performances that showcase the instrument of English handbells with the highest-quality presentation and musicianship.
Based in Colorado Springs, Forté is an advanced handbell quartet marked by artistry, energy, and dedication to their craft. In pursuit of musical excellence, Forté strives to explore, innovate, inspire, and glorify God through the gift of music. Formed in 2007, Forté began as an extended outlet for advanced ringers in Colorado Springs and immediately began to be featured in several concerts and tours with the Pikes Peak Ringers. But with an ever-expanding repertoire and the enhanced scheduling flexibility that only a small ensemble can provide, Forté soon emerged as a unique performance and educational quartet, quickly developing an elite reputation within the handbell world. The musicians of Forté continually challenge themselves to “Rethink Possible,” expanding their musical and performance horizons, adding original compositions and arrangements to their already-challenging repertoire, and seeking out new performance venues and educational opportunities. They recently completed a national tour, accented by their performance of a feature concert at the Handbell Musicians of America National Seminar in 2016.
