Gateway H.S. Varsity Boys Basketball Team asking for community support at Thursday Home Game.

Gateway High School Boys Basketball has a mission, of course winning games is always a goal but according to Head Coach Jason Dixon, it is more than just winning the game of basketball “Basketball is an outlet to show students that there are tremendous opportunities in the world, and our mission is to open minds and doors for these young boys, which includes college and travel and life experiences”.

The goal is to send many kids to college on scholarships. In order to do this, players need equipment to build muscular strength with on-court training. Unfortunately, the funds are not available for the equipment needed to train hard, and the summer basketball camps that are necessary to keep the training ongoing. Due to lifestyle and technology, kids today lack the muscular strength and need to train even harder. Although a super athlete is never out of the equation, a college scholarship is the goal.

The Boys Basketball Varsity Team has partnered with US Cattle Drive Fundraiser, to raise funds for the items that the Team needs to go in the right direction for their future. Instead of stocking up at the supermarket, participants can use Snap (food stamps), check, debit and credit cards to purchase family packs of Beef, Chicken, Seafood, and Cheesecakes. This is fundraising that just makes sense, where families can support the school with purchases they are already going to make. US Cattle Drive Fundraiser will be on-site at Thursday’s game with a delicious variety of items to take home. The community is also invited to place an order with a member of the Varsity Basketball team or order online at www.uscattledrivefundraiser.com.

“It’s about investing in their future; they come in as boys and leave as young Men”. Coach Dixon is in his 3rd season at Gateway and last year became Head Coach. After playing Professional Basketball for 16years, this Liberty University State Champion has come back to his roots to help his childhood neighborhood of Aurora where at Aurora Central H.S. his team was in the State Final 4. Basketball opened doors in his life and now he is giving back.

Gateway H.S Varsity Boys Basketball Team is inviting the community to attend Thursday, February the 9th at 6pm. Enjoy the game, have fun and support the Team. Even the smallest gesture goes a long way, and attendance is a great way to get to know our community.
