Event Details

The winner of the Chamber Orchestra’s 2020 Emerging Artist Competition, Francesca Leo, will perform American composer Michael Daugherty’s stunning work commemorating the Trail of Tears.  Daugherty’s music has been consistently praised by our audiences, and while Rossini is a consistent delight, the biggest surprise of the weekend is by a woman composer, Louise Farrenc, whose Third Symphony is a Romantic-era triumph.

Rossini Tancredi Overture

Michael Daugherty Trail of Tears for Flute & Chamber Orchestra

Louise Farrenc Symphony No. 3

Guest flutist, Francesca Leo would like to acknowledge the tragedy and cross-generational trauma that the Trail of Tears has had on the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee and Seminole tribes in the forced removal from their homeland in 1830. Francesca plans to donate a portion of her Emerging Artist Competition prize to the preservation of Cherokee culture.
