The Colorado Wind Ensemble, the metro area’s urban wind symphony, presents a stunning multimedia experience with nature photographer John Fielder in Outdoor Exposure on Friday, Dec 2, at 7:30pm at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 9203 S University Blvd, Highlands Ranch, 80126 and on Saturday, Dec 3, at 7:30pm at the King Center on the Auraria campus, 855 Lawrence Way, Denver 80204. Conductor David Kish leads the CWE in a program that includes Aaron Copland’s Outdoor Overture, Eric Whitacre’s Cloudburst, Ola Gjeilo’s Serenity, William Pitts’ Conniption, Bruce Broughton’s Silverado, and Ron Nelson’s Aspen Jubilee, featuring soprano Michelle Thompson.
John Fielder says, “The title Outdoor Exposure is the perfect description of the Colorado images I will marry with the Ensemble’s sounds of woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. Projected on large screens behind the orchestra and choreographed to the music, I will share photographs made over the past 40 years of, among other places, Colorado’s National Parks & Monuments. The year 2016 is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. From prodigious mountains to precipitous rivers canyons to cliff-clinging Puebloan ruins and antiquities, attendees will witness the most remote bastions of wildness in all of Colorado. The photographs represent 40 years exploring parks such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Great Sand Dunes, and Mesa Verde, as well as our 43 federal Wilderness Areas.”
