Event Details

5:30 – 8:30 pm Please join us for dinner and a discussion! Business and Professional Women of Boulder’s annual business panel for 2017 will focus on sustainability. We are bringing together three experts to report to us about the state of our Earth, Ocean and Food. The panel will answer the question: What is the biggest issue we face today (in your area of expertise), and what can we work together to do about it?
Michael Brownlee: A leader in food localization efforts since 2006, Michael Brownlee is the author of The Local Food Revolution: How Humanity Will Feed Itself in Uncertain Times (North Atlantic Books), a manifesto for localizing the nation’s food supply and a strategic guide for those who are in a position to be catalysts in this process. He is a founding partner in Local Food Catalysts, LLC, an online media and events company supporting the emerging local food revolution. Michael was co-founder of Boulder-based Local Food Shift Group (formerly known as Transition Colorado, the first officially-recognized Transition Initiative in North America), a non-profit organization with the mission of building community resilience and self-reliance through localizing the food supply.
Elena Parthemer
Zero Waste Field Coordinator
Elena manages Eco-Cycle’s network of over 800 community Eco-Leaders across Boulder County to keep our community passionately active and equipped with tools and resources to adopt and share Zero Waste practices. Elena organizes and leads educational tours, trainings and presentations around Zero Waste – including regular tours of Eco-Cycle’s Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM) facility. Elena values partnering with passionate individuals as well as mission-driven community organizations to work collaboratively to manifest the thriving world we all wish to live in.
Erin Cooper, Advisory Board Member, Colorado Ocean Coalition
Erin has been involved with the Colorado Ocean Coalition since 2011 and an Advisory Board member since May 2016. She is experienced in education and outreach programs related to water resources and currently works in flood recovery with Boulder County as a Floodplain Specialist. Prior to her flood recovery work, she managed a marine science education nonprofit organization, Teens4Oceans, and served as a Marine Policy Fellow with the NOAA Office of Education in Washington, DC. She has a Master’s degree in Environmental Science with experience in natural resource management and science education. A naturalist at heart, Erin has studied wetlands, headwater habitats, as well as coral reef ecosystems and now applies these interests to Colorado watersheds to encourage a global perspective on local water resources.
